Saviour King

Superman and Spider-Man have something in common. They are both super heroes.

Now I know that may come as a shock to you but it’s true. They are in the business of rescuing people and stopping bad people.

The hope of the Messiah was partly about saving as well. Saving and stopping the bad guys.

That was a very important part of the business of the Messiah. That Saviour element is one we rightly celebrate and rejoice in. He has saved us from our sins. He has rescued us from the finality of death because He has conquered it. He has defeated the bad guys and set us free.

Hallelujah!

This, however, is not the only expectation of the Messiah. The final critical element of His specific mission was to rule. At last with all other rulers vanquished, once more the throne could be returned to the lineage of David. Once more rule would come by God’s anointed. This rule, however, would be like no other. It would surpass the efforts of even David and Solomon.

The Kingdom of God on the earth is the expression of that awesome rule. People acknowledging the saving work of Jesus Christ, must then also acknowledge His rightful place as King. As King, He rules; as the one who rules it is in our interest to learn His rule and comply. His rule in all life affects everything.

So as much as we’re grateful for His saving, we almost must see His rule for what it is, noting that life in His Kingdom, far outstrips and outlasts any pale imitation of life we currently endure. He saves us to enjoy His rule and truly live joyfully ever after.

Not even Superman AND Spider-Man can offer you that!

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
