In hunger, my mind and body informs me it is in need of sustenance.
It is one of the basic needs of life. It expresses itself as one of the first urges and desires I experience. Before long I grow to realise that if I do not meet this need there may be trouble ahead.
I take it for granted. I hunger, I eat, hunger over, trouble avoided. Indeed life is then revolved around satisfying that need in order to operate properly.
When Jesus is lead by the Spirit into the wilderness, He embarks on 40 days of combat with even that basic need to unveil an even more essential need.
When Jesus does that, He challenges what I truly hunger for. His retort to the enemy in the first recorded temptation states clearly the source of life for which I should truly hunger.
Neglect of this foundation issue causes fatal consequences. Attending to it is the platform for greatness and Christlikeness to emerge.
