The congregation had just finished singing the chorus “He Is Lord”. There had been the usual whooping and hollering and praises onto God for the nature of the song. Hands were raised and the occasional ‘hallelujah’ broke out. The saints were feeling good.
The speaker seemed to be out of step with the mood of the time. He picked up his Bible, walked up to the rostrum, looked out at the faces that looked at him anticipating his words to encourage them to continue the hollering and whooping. He surveyed the scene slowly from left to right and back again.
Sadly, he turned His Bible to the reference he was looking for. Having found it without uttering a word to that point, he again looked at the expectant crowd with tears in his eyes.
“Jesus says,” he began softly, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
He closed his Bible and slowly stepped down from the rostrum, walking through the aisle and out of the door, leaving a shocked and stunned crowd behind.
