Thanksgiving is a beautiful thing.
Truly a beautiful and wonderful thing.
Today has been a great example of that. I have had the privilege of working under a particular organisation over the last year or so. These folks have been brilliant. They’ve helped me experience what it is to be kinda self-employed and working as a contractor. They’ve sorted out the tax issues without a qualm, their customer service more often than not has been exemplary. As I was moving onto a different working relationship it meant an end to my contractual relationship with them. The way they wrapped things up, was so expertly done, I was compelled to write them a letter of commendation and gratitude for their ourstanding service.
Throughout the day I was in dialogue with my brother, and conversing with him reminded me of how much I admire him. He’s come so far in ten years. His university years could have mashed him up, but he emerged from it and really settled himself down to be a responsible man. That was the foundation for him to be the honourable husband and delightful Dad he is to his family. Witnessing that and knowing he loves and cares for me the way he does, brings tears of gratitude to my eyes in praise and delight to God for a brother like him.
I came home from an interesting choir practice to be greeted by my beloved and faithful wife who was waiting up for me. Simple things like that make me so grateful to God that He knew I wouldn’t be good on my own, and provided the right kinda helper suitable for me. Having sorted out the things I needed, and allowing me to serve her in the way I can. It was simply stunning to reflect on the importance of the most critical relationship in my life. She means so much to me. God is so good. He deserves my praise and gratitude for His beauty in my beloved.
That would have been good enough for the day, but then later into the evening my sister-in-law called. Now my sister-in-law is one of the planet’s most beautiful human beings. I should have guessed that, after all she is the sister to my wife, who you know to be the most beautiful woman in the world (to me). Yet my sister-in-law continues to amaze and astound me with her simple beauty. By simple beauty, I don’t mean stupid beauty. I don’t mean idiot beauty. I mean the capacity to encapsulate so much complexity int he world and efficiently deliver quality in digestible formats.
She is just a tremendous person to know. Wherever she goes she has a light about her, she has an essences of purity and desire for beauty that is truly a wonder to behold. I am a better person all the time for being in her company, and you can imagine how delighted I am when her and my wife are in the same vicinity at the same time. It’s like happy times for da man cd (heh! I bust out an old name for me).
All she did was call on the telephone, and her voice on the phone was an uplift for the entire house, and we all had to chime in with how grateful to God we are for her.
Thanksgiving is a beautiful thing.
It’s just great to give thanks to God and actually see His beauty in the things for which you are grateful. You admire His handiwork. You let Him know what a genius He is. you let Him know how it’s so positively impacted you that the grin on your face cannot match how wide it is in your heart. You can cope with some of the less appealing things, because the reality of the beauty of God as seen in others reinforces the reality of God Himself.
It is superb to be grateful because giving God thanks truly is a beautiful thing.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
