When you read something enough, you almost get the impression that the book becomes a part of you.
I get the impression that reading the gospel of John is a mystery case. The number of times people say they know this Jesus guy only for Him to say something or do something that leaves them thinking again.
Sometimes his opponents would chide Him assuming they knew where He came from. Only for Him to stick a spanner in the worls that gets them saying they don’t know Him.
The mystery is not just for His enemies. Even those closest to Him from His family to His disciples don’t fully get Him. Some will leave because they don’t know Him. One will betray Him. His family will even think lightly of His heavenly mission.
All this to suggest even after Pentecost, no believer can have dibs on knowing Him completely. In fact that’s a prayer that Paul holds dearly for the church that we should know Jesus.
Know Him deeper, know Him more than we knew Him yesterday. Know Him to such a degree that when He says He is the Resurrection and the Life we don’t just hold onto a nice theory of what will happen im the end. We trust in Him for now being the Resurrectiom and the Life.
This level of knowing is greatly assisted by reading of His life as recorded in the gospels. As I know, however, mere reading does not provide illumination and revelation.
Reading the gospel of John is a chance to engage with the Spirit and rely solely on Him to help develop a love for and subsequently deeper knowing of Jesus – the very mystery of the gospel.
With that in mind, I encourage you to check Cruising Through The Gospel by Chris Jeffries whose currently going through John’s Gospel.
As you do so it would be beneficial and listen to this glorious book on the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus.
It will change your life.
For His Name’s Sake
