A saying suggests there are only two things guaranteed in life – death and taxes.
Reflecting on the experiences I’ve had and witnessed as a Christian, I’d suggest certain other things are as close to inevitable as you can get without dying of taxation.
It’s Inevitable: You will be misunderstood when sharing your faith with an unbeliever.
It’s Inevitable: You will go through seasons of doubt whether in thought or worse in action. That doubt in action is fairly subtle because you can get away with church attendance, declaration of faith, tithing etc. But all that is going through the motions because when it comes to it, you are not connecting to God and He is not influencing your plans.
It’s Inevitable: You will find out about others views of you in a heated argument with a friend. Those views will keep you self-consciously checking yourself for some time.
It’s Inevitable: Your view of God will change and that will affect how you treat others.
It’s Inevitable: You will read something in the Bible you don’t understand and when someone explains it to you, it still won’t make sense at that time.
It’s Inevitable: You’ll be challenged in your faith by calls to be ‘reasonable’ in prioritising issues that Jesus described as the cares of this world.
It’s Inevitable: God will love you beyond your doubts and failings and that will be amazing.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
