September Sojourn: Harvest for the World

It was Harvest Thanksgiving Service. The front of the church hall was beautifully decked out with the wide array of produce donated by the congregants.

The display reflected generous hearts and was amazing to see. The designated recipients are those among the least in society both in the locality and elsewhere. Not only was it a beautiful act of thanksgiving to God, it was a reminder that whatever we are blessed to produce is to be of benefit to all.

The message again looked at what it was to be fruitful and how Jesus the Gardener is committed to making sure those in the vineyard arw fruitful.

As the service played out, I was reminded of that Isley Brothers tune Harvest For The World. The sentiment in it reminded me of the heartbeat of the Gospel. It is news that is to permeate every aspect of society and this entire globe. It is the news of our God ruling, and opening people’s experiences to what that Kingdom rule looks like. In a very real way as manna fed the Israelites, Jesus is the Bread of Life sent for us to consume and receive the real life that matters.

As He told the woman at the well, we drink Him we need never thirst again. We eat Him we need never hunger again. Life full of Him is life in its fullness – and a life we would want others to experience. A life that rights wrongs, that desires mercy, that pursues justice and treasures peace. A life motivated by holy love.

Every day we have an opportunity to tell the suffering, dying, starving world the good news. Jesus is the Harvest for the World.

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
