So over the last entries I’ve been banging on about the Lord’s Supper and why it’s so important to me, and how I journeyed from a ritualistic observance with little input, to a heartfelt desire to enjoy and celebrate the experience.
Recently I sat through a Meal and I was lost in thought as people shared heart-moving testimonies of what the Body and Blood mean to them. I was lost in thought at God having designed this from eternity past to be consummated in eternity to come. I was lost in thought at celebrating the meal that signifies our unity with the One who was before time began and in as much as we consider things from a sin perspective, there is something about the eternity perspective that puts sin in its … perspective.
Imagine the plan of God to engage with His sons and daughters. That plan was never thwarted by sin. It was not sidelined by sin. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection reinforced the plan, and around the world men and women, boys and girls who have accepted this and experience the Holy Spirit in their lives now walk and talk, live and give, care and share with love from above in newnwss of life. The life of Christ.
That life is about an intimate relationship that oges far beyond a meal. Might be celebrated with a meal, but goes so far beyond it. So much deeper, so much richer. I so desire for others to witness that. Those who are yet to see it. Those currently under the cloud of a life more ordinary, who have been seduced into thinking that the world is all there is. I think the Meal and its related realities is such a powerful witness to a dying world, that it’s a shame others don’t see it, or the community life on which it is built.
A shame. Though not a shame that will last long as we break out of our holy huddles and infect the world around us with this amazing news of the Risen Lord who is life. A life we celebrate in the Meal, but who is so much more than the meal.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
