I know it’s ironic me talking about the power of not talking, but it’s still worth a little blog.
There is a proverb that suggests that even a fool looks wise when he keeps his mouth shut and life has so far outlined just how true that is. The need to talk, to express verbally what’s going on and put it out there is a very strong desire in some. Yet it can get people in BIG trouble. Sometimes we say things that we live to regret.
I can however testify of the reality that sometimes in as much as you want to say something, if you express yourself privately to God – where you can be as full and frank as you like – and then keep your mouth shut, then it is amazing how God can sort out your business.
Now I’m not supporting those who have a tendency of not saying anything at all. This is not that blog entry. I am suggesting, for those who find it difficult to go through a minute without opening their mouth to give people the benefit of their ignorance, it might be in their best interests to by all means keep on talking. As long as the audience is just for God. Once you’ve had your say, take a few minutes, hours, days, weeks, months (you know where this is going), to actually pay attention to what He is saying. Perhaps He might be saying to e still and see how He sorts it out for you.
Yes our mission is to go and do – go and make disciples, and all of that. That is true indeed. Yet the work is God’s and not only that, but the glory is His too, and as long as it’s His story, His work, His mission and His church, then we don’t have to put ourselves under pressure to have to open our mouths all the time and feel we NEED to and HAVE to speak on His behalf.
Sometimes He says it all, when we keep out mouths shut.
For His Name’s Sake
