(For more on Bletchley Lessons read the intro)
I don’t remember walking that much when I was living in Manchester briefly, and the last few years of life in Stoke-on-Trent had infrequent walking episodes.
For the first half of the time in Bletchley, walking was hardly in the picture. In latter times however, there has been a new lease of life in loving walking. Not walking on my own, but walking with another who knows the area.
Those walks are invaluable for a number of reasons. Firstly from a purely physical concern, brisk walking is good for the body and mind. Secondly in terms of getting acquainted to your surroundings more than most other forms of movement, walking allows you to take in things, especially in the company of a good guide.
The best reason for walking, however, is that it is a great way to know people. The walks and talks I’ve had have been at times life-savers, and the weather never hampered the desire to traipse through this world in which we live. It goes to show that it is good to walk.
It’s a Bletchley Lesson.
