I have blogged about my brother, David on a few occasions.
I won’t link to them, take my word for it, or search the blog for ‘David Dryden’ for yourself.
For the time being I just to note for the record the huge amount of gratitude and admiration I have for him. I have been a Christ follower for nearly 20 years and the brotherly love mentioned in scripture is something I’ve experienced from my brother since before we both took a truth-pursuit seriously.
In recent years, his steadfast support for me through some of the darkest hours of my life has remained a deep and touching testimony to a profound and deep love that I believe goes deeper than sharing the same surname and parents. The wisdom he has shared, the challenges he has given me in word and example has been outstanding motivational tools for me. They have spurred me to take this life thing seriously and endeavour to progress for God’s sake as well as my own sake and the sake of those who love me.
It is not as though his own life has been plain sailing and trouble-free. It would be understandable a number of times if he couldn’t muster the energy or find the time for his brother. Yet in spite of this, he has put his own needs to the side to be of comfort to his brother.
This has shown me quite a lot about what brotherly love in the Christian sense of the word is supposed to look like. Thank God I’ve had experiences of that with fellow-travellers, and my desperate desire is to be able to share that with other brothers again on a more intentionally regular basis.
For the time being I know what it is to let brotherly love continue. I have been a recipient of that and it stimulates me to want to share it with others and I know there is nothing better than being a conduit for this love that enriches life and enables us to be fruitful in all aspects of our being.
That is all just for the record.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
