A lot is said about being gifted.
People who are gifted at certain pursuits are hailed in those activities and as they accomplish feat after feat, so they become all the more lauded for what they can do.
That applies as much in the Christian world as it does elsewhere. The man can sing, the woman can preach, and as we hear them crack on we are blessed by them and settle into a routine of expecting to be blessed by these gifted individuals. almost as though there is no pressure on us to do anything, other than sit back and admire just how gifted the brother is.
I know I am gifted. I enjoy any opportunity I get to exercise that gift whether in the church environment or beyond. It is certainly fun practicing and developing the gift and being able to learn from others how to hone it better and thus be more effective and productive in it.
Yet, something I’m lately coming to terms with, is the reminder that the purpose of the gift is to build others up. It is to allow others to see who Jesus is and in recognising that embrace that presentation and revelation and allow it to shape their lives. What I also appreciate is that if it is to build others, space has to be given at some point to see them express themselves.
I, thus, love the opportunity to create space to allow others to fill it with whatever God has given them. I get as much pleasure seeing a brother or sister displaying what God has to offer as I do being able to share myself. Indeed I’m all the more eager to share in the hope that it will stimulate others to share, or likewise chill to enjoy what others have to share in the space prepared for them.
I see that again it revolves around the giving nature of God, He has given us, so that we may give to others who, in recognising, that give back to God. It’s a beautiful cycle, because there is not out-giving God and that level of generosity reflects His character and its love in action also.
The desire now is to stay in that area of enjoying the space and enjoying creating space for others.
For His Name’s sake
Shalom
