The Importance of Rest

It is unfortunate that quite a few people confuse rest with sleep. Of course sleep can help with rest, but there is so much more to rest than that.

Sabbath rest inmy childhood days was a chore and at times a bore. It felt like punishment sometimes, such was the stringent adherence to a range of ‘thou shalt nots’ associated with it. As well as that, there was little connecting it with the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

Years later my views on Sabbath, rest and life has changed. It’s certainly reflected in my family life. For all its changes, one element I love to explore is the concept of rest in the person of Christ. What does it mean to observe it in the light of the New Covenant? How does the Lord of the Sabbath expect us to demonstrate it in a world that seems to press for a constant, active, driven 24-7 lifestyle?

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
