Sometimes Waiting On God Means …

The thought of waiting is not one of life’s exciting prospects. Understandably, then, we try to make it more exciting.

While we wait, we can remember God and all that. We can anticipate what God might have in store. These things indeed can keep us occupied. That’s a good thing. We can do what we can to prepare. That’s fine.

Sometimes, however, waiting on God is an exercise in enduring inactivity. No change from one day to the next, and there can be a desperation to make things happen. In that very moment, God expects you to wait, by that it can mean a degree of inactivity, but it is not fruitless.

Think of why King Saul messed up the first time regarding instructions from the prophet Samuel. Also consider some of those close encounters of the divine kind where it’s preceded by waiting, whether it’s Moses or Elijah.

Some of our best efforts are merely efforts at distraction and filling time, when actually it is in our best intetests to merely and meekly wait. Sometimes that kind of waiting is the most fruitful because of the outcome.

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
