The writer of Hebrews in some verse referred to being surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. His point was about the heroes of faith who had been the platform for those now in Christ to keep pursuing life in Him with all their might.
I’ve not really seen myself as someone with a lot of friends. Indeed I would look on sadly as others mingled with their posse of amigos and reflect on how I never seemed to attract the same crowd.
Recently, however, I’ve had cause to reflect on the fact that actually God has indeed surrounded me not necessarily with a cloud of witnesses, but certainly a fair crowd of brothers and sisters who spur me onto good works in Christ.
I’ve faced some considerable challenges lately and it was actually my sister who pointed out that indeed there are people that I can refer to who can offer advice, support, counsel, practical help and ongoing expression of the compassion of Christ. As ever with my sister, she was spot on. (I can hardly say anything else, she’s me older sister and will beat me up if I even considered suggesting anything else but her ever being right.)
These can be the dudes that I read on their blogs such as Eic Carpenter, Frank Viola, Alan Knox and of course the King himself, Arthur Sido. Then there are the folks who keep in touch via that Facebook deal they stimulate my prayer life and have really helped with their input. I cannot give God thanks enough for the people who have visited me and befriended me and kept me in their heart and prayers and ensured I knew so with words of encouragement. For them I am truly grateful.
It is no exaggeration to say that were it not for these people, Jesus would never appear so real, so present, such a help in all times, than He has now.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
