Talking Point: Are Christians Cured Of Self-Righteousness?

It appears as though the image of Christians in some media portrayals is not that far from the Pharisee depicted in Jesus’ parable. (By the way, it is ironic that some Christians take a holier-than-thou attitude to Pharisees as a whole.  Indeed some of the anti-semitic sentiment can be seen as an expression of this attitude which is hardly … Christian.)

Name a hot topic issue (abortion, same-sex marriage, women priests, etc.) and it’s almost as though some go out of their way to laud their own merits and condemn those who are clearly far from their standard.

It doesn’t even have to be that explicit, in fact when you check yourself, even if you’re fairly moderate on those issues, there is a tendency to be stuck up about something.  Have followers of Christ really been cured of this self-righteousness?  If not, what is the cure? It’s a talking point.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
