Back in the day, when I was just a little nipper, causing chaos running around in between me mother’s legs and knocking the plain flour from her hand and causing a mess, she would often try and settle the nipper with some gospel music. I loved gospel music then, I love gospel music now.
A lot of what I listened to I completely lost touch with, so I didn’t have a clue who sang those songs that calmed the restless, roaming spirit of that little nipper. My sister, who is older, was far more diligent in keeping in touch with songs, and it was she that helped me work out who did this song. I remember at the time I was freaked out to hear the dude with low voice at the beginning suddenly transform into someone who could rasp and sing those top notes. I needed help to be told that it was two different singers, rather than an amazing singing man.
Now that I am not quite the nipper I was then and also have nippers of my own who likewise cause chaos with plain flour, it is an honour to pass on these songs to keep them rested in the knowledge that as with me they will embed them in their heart and also reach the conclusion that they are glad that God is not dead, but He lives.
For His Name’s Sake
