I hope that people have a chance to check out the Colorblind album by John P. Kee. Kee himself has a great reputation in the ‘gospel industry’, and he’s popular for his work with VIP and New Life Community Choir. What he will also be remembered for is some outstanding songs he has created and sung on his own.
Traded is one of the those songs that didn’t fit comfortably in either the contemporary or traditional gospel genre. If you listen to the song it’s not the usual up tempo, clap-your-hands song. Neither is it the usual solemn type song either. When you listen to the song – as in listen to Kee emote those lyrics, you are listening to gospel that is concreted in the human experience and speaks spiritual truth in seeking to connect with God. Brilliant, arresting songwriting at its best, which is why I’d recommend the song in itself highly.
