I Reckon We Can Be Reconciled

One of the things I’m delighted about concerning God is that this script that’s being played out and His plan is not plan B.

I’m glad that this isn’t a contingency measure.  I’m glad that it was part of the plan and there has been no deviation to the plan and whatever happens there will be no deviation to the plan that will lead to the outcome that has already been written.

Why I’m so happy about that is that it reaffirms the character of God in terms of his wisdom and righteousness.

In that wisdom and righteousness, within the script that He has allowed to play out in the grand narrative of the universe and the much smaller story of the life of Christopher Dryden, there is the story of being messed up, alienated and cut off … followed by getting cleaned up, welcomed into family and joined to the very source of creation.  The story doesn’t just play out in the ‘now I’ve got saved and I have decided to follow Jesus’ scenario.  The scene is played out again and again and again.

As well as Snyder’s book on the Community of the King, there’s also the much shorter book called Kingdom Lifestyle that I’m making my way through.  (I work just like the buses when it comes to reading – I don’t read for ages, and then I read two books at the same time!  In truth, I’m actually reading three books, as I’m also reading Frank Viola’s Revise Us Again – but more on that in a future blog entry.)

Something in Kingdom Lifestyle arrested me to the extent that all being well I’ll be looking at exploring the issue in a series coming soon.  What I can say now is that I am grateful for the grace of God that reached out to the messed up, alienated and cut off.  My life is so much the better for it.  I love witnessing it in action whether it’s on the one-to-one level, or in the larger settings.  I love witnessing people come to their senses and realise that the way to prosper is not the way of self, not the way of pride, but the way of peace as set by the Prince of Peace.

I think this perspective can change an appreciation of what happens in life.  where others feel that situations are beyond help, I believe that God’s Plan A gives us a reason to have hope, gives us a reason to keep believing, gives us a reason to not get weary in well doing.

However bad things are, situations can be approached where in the light of Christ we can say to the divided parties – I reckon we can be reconciled.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
