DMCD Songs: Saved – VIP Mass Choir feat. John P. Kee

The other day I sat in on a New Directions course.    This is a course run by the Baptist church to introduce people to Christianity if they are interested in pursuing it further.  I was invited to sit on it by a friend to see what it was like.  Their approach was to stress a relationship with God and how that is not possible because of the sin question.  Thus the main part of the first session was on the salvation narrative.

As I listened to what was said I was reminded of this song that was performed almost 20 years ago – yeah peeps this is now a proper member of the ‘classic’ department of gospel songs.

My sister had recently got baptised around the time we first heard this song, so it might have some significance for her, but I know the first time I heard it I fell in love with it.  I was big into choirs at the time and without too much affiliation to lyrical content I was just blown away by the arrangement and structure of the song.

Then of course I grew up a bit and got into the words and could tell you a story on how impactful each aspect of the lyric is – my favourite part is where we sing:

I confess with my mouth

And believe with my heart

That you raised Jesus Christ

And He entered my life,

I’ve gotta tell everybody,

I’ve gotta tell everybody,

I’m so glad I’m saved.

It’s been almost 20 years in which I’ve had my ups and downs as far as walking with Jesus is concerned, but I give God thanks that I can still sing this song with the heartfelt reality that I mean it and enjoy the chance to tell everybody that I am so glad I am saved.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
