Studying the Bible is a wonderful thing.
I read a lot. There is nothing so thrilling, challenging and life-changing as truly reading the Bible.
The problem with reading the Bible, though, especially if you are eager to hear what God is saying in it, is that it doesn’t come at once, it doesn’t always come easy and it is not always easy to understand and live out.
Take the book of Hebrews.
Brilliant book. I didn’t appreciate it when I first became a Christian. It took the best part of 10 years before I really got into the book, and having done so I find myself coming back to it again and again and asking questions of it and having to learn all over again some of the implications.
Like coming across a verse like this:
In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. (Hebrews 8:13)
I mean, that sounds big in the context of the description of Jesus given in the rest of the book. It sounds even bigger if taken in the context of an entire section of the Bible like the Old Testament. Yet I’m not certain if the full extent of the consequences of this is truly lived out. Especially by me.
Hmmmmm. What say you?
To get a really big idea of what a big deal it is, I strongly suggest you have a read of King Arthur’s entry on the same matter.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
