Talking Point: Taking Gluttony Seriously

In my media readings the other day, I came across this article looking at 108 reasons why we are getting fatter.  (People go to great efforts to research then write these things, don’t they.)

I am aware that obesity is becoming more and more of a problem in large parts of the Western world.  As I considered the problem, it linked me to the issue of the sin of gluttony.  I saw the video above and had an issue with the use of Jesus’ temptation by Satan as a text proof against gluttony, but other than that was fascinated with other verses used to warn against gluttony.

I am in no way suggesting it should become a major cause of Christian living to wage a mass campaign on the subject.  Yet it does appear that while some are busy crucifying homosexuals in Jesus’ name or are making a big deal of people who have abortions for God’s sake, there isn’t so much of a stress on dealing with a sin that has evidently lead to an international epidemic that is a cultural norm.  My concern is what gluttony says about how we treat God’s provisions and how we treat the temple God has given that is our body.  Still, that’s just me.  It’s a talking point.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
