The Importance Of A Loving Father

Research.  You’ve got to love it.

The other day it was Father’s Day and because I wasn’t at home my beloved daughters didn’t get the chance to give their Dad his Father’s Day gift, so I finally got it yesterday. (Cool mug – I like mugs.)  As I admired the box it was placed in, I came across this article. Researchers claim that children need a loving father!!  Well who would have thought?  What a shock.  What a surprise.  What will researchers claim next – that oxygen is important for breathing?

I do believe that as a society we’ve got the issue of manhood, husbandry and fatherhood seriously screwed up.  I also believe that the role of the mother has been over-emphasised to detract from that of the father.  It’s a belief, based on observation and experience in some areas.  In no way would I suggest that the father’s role should be put up there as the quintessential necessity for a child, but the fact remains I am a product of a loving father as well as a Heavenly Loving Father.

It remains one of the highlights of my life to have the responsibility for three children who look to me as Dad.  At times it feels like a burden and at times it comes across as a chore, but beyond that the heart and truth of the matter is that these precious children can grow to make a great impact on the earth because of bearing witness to a loving lifestyle seen in the sacrificial love a husband has for his wife, and the sacrificial love a father has for his children.

Love in protecting, love in educating, love in guiding, love in counselling, love in providing, love in listening, love in understanding, love in action, love in words.

I have the chance to exemplify that as I see that in the love of both my earthly and heavenly father.  That’s why it remains important for me to endeavour to be a loving father.

Here’s a song that reminds me of the heavenly Father who cares for us.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
