Spending Time

My poor family.

My loving, devoted wife informed me that it is hard living with me.  I informed her that I absolutely agreed, and now she has some idea of what I have to put up with every minute of my life.

One of the areas that this difficulty manifests itself is in spending quality time with the three girls.  Now I know what I posted earlier this week about the blessing of children.  This is not to refute that.  It is to say, however, that the girls require quality time, not on my terms and conditions, but on theirs.  What they enjoy doing.  What they enjoy watching.  That kinda stuff.  Have to tell you, that’s some heavy going, because some of the stuff they enjoy I absolutely despise.  (Seriously, my relationship with anything produced by Disney for children, could not get any lower.)

Yet the prize of investing in this for them and with them, are daughters ever so glad to tolerate Daddy watching his football from time to time, even watching it with me and learning what quality television is all about.

My brother reminds me that some of fatherhood and manhood is enduring things you don’t like, but doing so not out of obligation, but out of the love of responsibility to engage with such blessings.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
