Shouldn’t We Care?

Something has been bothering me.

Someone I knwo who to all intents and purposes portrays commendable qualities and attributes that any Christian would seek to imitate confessed that they had found abundant life elusive.  True happiness had been missing for decades and they had rather been more acquainted with grief, barrenness, loneliness and isolation.

Shouldn’t that bother us?  Shouldn’t we be doing something about that?  Isn’t that part of the communal life of growing in Christ together?

Or am I missing something?

I am certain that is not an isolated incident either.  What it shows, however, is how often brothers and sisters sitting in the pews will live with hurts, confusions, pains and rejections that will remain deep under the surface and will never see the light because the actual life we live doesn’t allow us to expose these issues in the light of Christ and deal with them.

Shouldn’t we care?  Shouldn’t we be doing something about that?

Well of course we should and of course there are those expressions of Christian community that are just as vigilant in this area as they are in Bible study, prayer and the such like.  Thank God for such expressions and may their values permeate greater church life.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
