DMCD Songs: My Tribute (To God Be The Glory) – Andrae and Israel

I wanted to post the version of this song that Andrae Crouch did on his brilliant Finally album.  Alas I could not find it (the search continues, though and if you find it, let me know).

These will do, though.

I love this version for the mellow chilled out beginning.  I remember one of the first times I heard it before the God business became my business I heard it and started crying it was so moving.  Now I cry with the understanding, although sometimes I know I probably had a good idea why I was crying at the time.  Just think of what the brother is singing.  Count all the things God has done for you … on second thoughts were you to seriously carry that out you would do nothing else for the rest of your life!  I am a huge fan of this version.

So as I mentioned I was looking for the Finally version, but this is not a bad substitute with Andrae taking the singing duties himself.  It is such a superb song to listen to as especially you get to the chorus where you see that the best thing to give God glory for is His miraculous work on Calvary that saves and raises us.  Awesome work, awesome reminder in such an awesome song.

Israel Houghton is an unashamed fan of the man Crouch and so it is only fitting that he has a pop at the deal himself.  Talk about an update – Houghton does it in a style that blends in other similar songs and keeps the deal as contemporary as Crouch made it for his day, and that’s not a bad thing – that’s a good thing.

In all things anything that can help us to remember that we live to glorify God for who He is and the marvellous things He has done is worth celebrating over and over and over again.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
