All The Days

I was reading more of the Jesus Manifesto today – book by Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola.  Came across a section where they looked at how to measure a good day and a bad day.  It refers to a brilliant Chinese proverb … which I would tell you, but seriously you might as well buy the book!

What it reminded me of was how important perspective really is.  Some of the worst days of my life have been essential steps on the journey to great days.  Likewise some of those glorious highs have actually been some of the seeds of complacency that lead to some humbling and humiliating experiences.

Some believe that whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – I don’t.  I believe that although people physically emerge from harrowing occasions, the state of their mind and their heart might be scarred deeper than ever before and would require even greater lengths of healing.  You go through marital difficulties, you endure employment challenges, you name it, you have to travel through it, but you’re not stronger for it.  You’re hardened, you’re even more sensitive and less likely to be compassionate.

What the wisdom of God suggests though is that the best time to assess whether they were good or bad days is in the last day.  When that last day arrives and we consider where we are, that’s when we get a better perspective on our situations.  I write this still in the afterglow of some precious birthday messages from dear friends and family.  Yet I know that from those messages today on another day there won’t be anything from anyone and I’ll have to recognise again that all my days and all my blessings are gifts from the hands of a God who cares enough for me to know should I continue to live for Him as He works for me, the latter days will be far greater than the earlier.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
