Thank God For Work

I have been reliably informed that Monday is the worst day of the week. This I am also informed is because the weekend is over and so it’s back to work.

I don’t subscribe to that view. Wednesday is the worst day of the week. Just saying.

One of the reasons for not having a problem going to work occurred to me as I shut the home’s front door and took off me work shoes replacing them with me comfy, funky, brown slippers. (Oh and for the record indoor slippers rock! Simple as that.) As my feet were caressed by the soft embrace of me slippers I stopped and said “I am a working man. Thank you, Lord.” Consider for just a moment the blessing of work.

The blessing of being enabled by God to conduct some from of sort of exertion – physical, verbal, mental, emotional or a combination of all those. As we invest these energies something happens – maybe to what we work on, or on what works on us – and some sort of fruit is either produced or nurtured/cultivated towards being produced. Whether your efforts as a cleaner maintain a positive working environment, or your efforts as a housewife enhance the power of the home. Maybe your filing makes things easier for access or your bus driving enables passengers to get to work. Whatever the job, career or vocation it contributes to your wellbeing and that of others. What a blessing that is.

In my own context I help support the upkeep of my home and show an example of being purposeful and industrious to my family. Those in my community are blessed by my efforts. My self development carries on through the engaging with the tricky nature of the work culture. Yet i am still there. Still making my contribution. Still exerting energy that leaves me tired at the end of the day, but a lot of the time also content at the blessing of work.

So take a few momemnts not to grumble or mumble about the end of the weekend and a miserable Monday. For once see the blessing of work, whether paid or unpaid. Embrace the blessing and thank God!

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
