This follows yesterday’s post featuring how vocal a baby can be in getting parents to do everything for the baby. You’ll remember I was sharing how this was particularly insightful for me in the light of the blessings of babies God has given me in three girls very energetic, very demanding and just very … very.
A friend reminded me how that scenario could be very close to another scene found in scriptures.
On the next day we departed and came to Caesarea, and we entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him. He had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied. (Acts 21:8, 9)
I read that verse and my admiration for Philip went soaring – four daughters – all prophetesses, what a blessing that would be. Then I noticed as well that this was the guy that back in Acts 8 would do a runner to Samaria to spread the gospel, then run to meet an Ethiopian eunuch to spread the gospel and keep on running and keep on spreading until he got to Caesarea.
Of course I am in no way implying that Phil kept on running because he knew he’d have to go home to FIVE WOMEN in the house! Not at all. Neither am I suggesting that with four of them being prophetesses as well, I imagine they would be energetic vocal little girls when they were younger giving Phil a lot more … motivation to evangelise. No, I am not suggesting or implying those things at all.
What I am saying is that in the light of scriptures like this, men like Philip become heroes to me. This is a true measure of a man of God to be so faithful in witness and be the father of such a set of talkers … I mean prophetesses for the Lord. Awesome stuff. It gives me hope. It gives me confidence. It gives me the urge to … keep on running!
Keep on praying as I keep on running for Jesus (not away from the girls at all).
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
