Things I Learnt From TV: No.17 – It’s As Important As They Say

I don’t often watch the news on TV. There was a time when it was a must, but now things are very different.

Someone selects the order and nature of those news items. That agenda is determined by values important to the news company and also sometimes by the society itself. What watching this editorial control taught me was that things can be important if you want it to be.

It’s not just news. Programmes and TV schedules can create a world in themselves that seek to give viewers the idea that they control what they watch and not considering how what they watch considerably influences them and shapes their world even at the very least for conversation fodder. Things that are important are determined by others and other viable issues are sidelined in mind and application.

I’m not knocking TV or news, I am saying that it’s important to be aware of what really matters and what sources influence our understanding of these things.

Just blogging.

That is all.

For His Name’s Sake
