Reading and listening and watching and observing I come across statements and phrases that are kinda the done thing to say in certain areas. So for example there’s this wonderful word called ‘proactive’ which people need to be to make progress in life – not reactive, but proactive. Then there is the business-speak possibly influenced by psychology and the like that suggests we need to think ‘outside the box’. This suggests that to be successful in life we must not get stuck with the ideas we’re used to or conventional thinking, but we need to try things new and refreshing, consider the unorthodox and apply it for different results.
Some of these are really useful and as a result they can be helpful. Some are … well … just stating the obvious that anyone could say in a catch way and is presented in a way to sound fresh as though someone thought out of the box.
One phrase that I heard recently that seemed to resonate with me a great deal was about the sweet spot. Used apparently in athletics or other sporting pursuits. It talks about reaching the optimum in physical, mental and emotional condition whilst performing the activity that is of most benefit to you at the time. So for the athlete it is in their sport, for the actor it is when the director gives them the go ahead.
It may come across as though that activity is a purely selfish pursuit. I want to be at my best in doing something I want to do. My belief is that God wants us to find the sweet spot in discovering what He’s given us to serve each other and then ebenefit each other in using that which He’s given us to give to others. so if we have that gift of encouragement, or teaching, or hospitality, perhaps we can sort out finances, maybe it’s blogging (Hello Eric, Hello Alan, Hello Arthur, Hello Bobby, Hello Guy and Hello Keith among others). Either way when you want to serve others by making the most of what’s been given to you in the knowledge it will benefit others and perhaps stimulate them to discover what’s been given to them in order to give to others, then surely that’s a community growing and thriving. Especially as the best of what we’ve been given in our journey to learning about God – is God Himself. Every gift opens us closer to understanding God and there’s no set way of sharing it. Don’t have to be booted and suited. Doesn’t have to be in a set location that is especially called a sanctuary. Doesn’t have to be reserved for a day or time. In fact apparently somewhere it’s suggested that if we have an opportunity to do it today we are to share it today.
In doing so I reckon we achieve an appreciation for the true sweet spot – in serving others with what God has given us, we reflect what He desires and together life – in spite of the difficulties – becomes so much more fulfilling.
Just blogging.
That is all.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
