Resting in the grace of Jesus is one of the most reassuring things you can do. Genuinely resting.
That is also one of the main things to do, funnily enough whilst serving. Giving to people of your physical, emotional and general relational well being can be hugely exhausting. You don’t want to cast pearls before swine and you are sensitive to where Jesus is leading. Yet you see familiar things. Lack of gratitude, people suffering despite your efforts, the malaise setting in rather than lifting. You remain faithful in as much as you can in the circumstances but sometimes the tears dry up and a callousness appears where your heart’s sensitivity.
This is why resting in Jesus remains so important. Looking in despair and not remaining compassionate misses the heart and acts of God in the matter, not just in the short term but in the eternal term. For all that you do, the question will always remain, otherwise, what can you do?
