Generational Blessings – A Brief Reminder

Recently I was walking home with my youngest daughter in my arms. As I did so and looked at her, I thought about sacrifice.

I grew in admiration and appreciation for the sacrifice my parents paid for my siblings and me. How they invested in us even to the cost of any ambition they may have had for themselves. All that to see their offspring fed, clothed, nurtured, nourished, educated and brought up in the fear of the Lord.

I recalled this as I gently cradled my dear youngest in my arms. As I did so I prayed that I would be faithful in my parental duties as my parents were (and are) to me. This is so that my daughters and their generation may, despite social and cultural pressures, recognise the cost and the joy of parenthood. In doing so the hope is that they may return thanks to God for His grace in their lives and likewise commit themselves to following the heavenly parental model for those who may follow them.

When the country I’m in looks to pin the blame for social ills on a lack of good parenting, I thank God for being a Father to the fatherless and raising His children to love, honour and respect. Here is a prayer of hope that the generational blessing of faithfulness will spread.

For His Name’s Sake
