Whether it’s Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstien or The Incredible Hulk, I’m a big fan of stories that tell the truth about the difference between what is perceived as beauty and what actually is beauty.
I used to be very much aware of how image conscious society is. I never felt as though I met the requirements and that did damage to my self image. I have been guilty of following culture’s perception of what is beautiful.
It took the nail scarred image of the crucified Saviour to identify with the meaning of true beauty and what is truly grotesque. Sin scarred inside and failing to acknowledge it makes any external perception of beauty superficial as the soul rots. True beauty does lie within. It is reflected in a character submisssive and conformed to the true beautiful image of Christ. People can mock at external features which only reveals their own disfigured being. Whereas true joy and peace in the heart radiates a beauty that is undimmed for whatever ravaging effects time afflicts on the outside.
I am not completely content with my physical appearance. I am overjoyed at Christ at work within and the promise of the corruptible one day becomeing incorruptible in the light of His glorious face.
It is that joy that sustains me and encourages me to again know and celebrate true beauty when I see it – when he shows it in its multi-faceted ways.
For His Name’s Sake
