I sometimes wonder if we don’t make things hard for ourselves.
When I lived in Stoke-on-Trent and was part of a church there, I remember doing an exercise encouraging people to share faith from where they are called Gospel Connections. It was a concern to me that people didn’t make the link between the beauty and power of the gospel and the urge to share that good news with others. I know there a variety of reasons for it. I know I came up with enough reasons myself.
Without giving people a guilt trip, it is fairly clear that somehow we are missing the deal. Whether we believe it should be the job of the ‘evangelist’, whether we don’t feel call or gifted, whether we are unsure of what to say or how to say it, I wonder if there’s a conviction on how important this is to following Jesus. Yet we are sometimes making it hard for ourselves.
If we but have the eyes to see and ears to hear as Jesus shows in his ministry through his parables and contemporary references there are connections to the gospel almost anywhere. So where is there a connection to the gospel in what you are experiencing today?
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
