All of life is lived for Christ. There is no separation from what I am on one day to another. My activities at work express my love for God. My activities on my own express my love for God. My activities with my wife express my love for God. My activities in a church gathering express my love for God. Beyond that the motives of my heart and the words of my mouth also express my love for God. Sometimes that expression is lacking in true love. Sometimes it is overflowing. Yet all of life is for Christ and so all I do must be informed by christ as it reflects my love for Him.
This has interesting implications for the television programmes I watch and films I enjoy. I like watching films. They are stories and I like stories. They have much to say about life as we have it and as we want it. Sometimes I think we can be a bit too precious about what we take on board as though the Bible is a U or PG rated book. That is not to suggest that I can justify a blood ‘n’ guts movie because the Bible is a violent book. It is to say that christ must inform the movies I watch and my experience of it must reflect the love I have for Him rather than splitting my persona from the ‘holy and pure’ one that does the church stuff and then the ‘regular’ one that can take all jokes and depictions bombarded in movies.
It is a fascinating journey to deal with – thank god for His Spirit that can reveal Christ in all life – including the movies.
For His Name’s Sake
