DMCD Songs – I’m Goin’ Up Yonder

I heard this song when I was growing up and as with many songs of those childhood days, I’d hear them, like them, not know who did them and have them lurk in the background for years.  Of course then I get all grown up and I know me John P Kee, Kirk Franklin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Commissioned, Marvin Winans and the rest. I even dig out who have done some of those lurking songs.

Now I don’t want to bring a downer on the song, but I always thought the song was referring to going up to heaven when you die.  Thankfully there is another of viewing it, namely that the promise in 1 Thessalonians that when the first trump sounds the dead in Christ shall rise.  So literally should God see fit I’m going up all being well.  (Although if you take a peek at Revelations, everyone’s coming up, it’s just if they’re sticking around that’s the issue.)  The key where the song stays sweet is what I love to live for – and that is the point being forever with the Lord.

It’s a classic – it’s worth being a classic – enjoy.

Oh by the way for the uninitiated, the singer leading the song is Tramaine Hawkins.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
