Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among his great men; it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,” than for him to humiliate you before his nobles. (Proverbs 25:6, 7)
We live in a world where apparently people who get ahead are those who are able to sell themselves. Those confident in their own abilities to be able to tell others and leave them in no doubt who the best person is. In as much as it is important to be aware of the strengths you have to offer, regardless of pressures from cultural values, it remains the hallmark of humility to be able to leave it to others to compliment you and allow promotion to take place naturally, rather than force it through with the possible unpleasant consequence.
