MTP24 – Don’t Wish It On Your Worst Enemy

Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, or the LORD will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them. (Proverbs 24:17, 18)

Jesus was not original when He said to love the enemy.  This word of wisdom sees something crucial in not seeing pleasure in bad things happening to those who oppose us.  Notice that the heart of this concern is as much about leaving justice to God as it is about our attitude to our enemy.  People who take it upon themselves to be judge, jury and executioner even in retrospect have endeavoured to take God’s place … not a clever thing to do.  In exercising compassion even to the plight of enemies, we leave order to the true Judge.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
