Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. (Proverbs 23:20, 21)
It never fails to make me chuckle the advert campaign that displays the much needed alcoholic beverage in large quantities and then in small writing at the bottom ‘Drink Responsibly’. The fact that such a piece of advice is needed says much for the tendency to be extreme when it comes to drink. Seeing people pig out (without equivalent warnings on food to ‘Eat Responsibly’) and their effects (see figures for obesity) should be enough to take careful heed to the wisdom in these words. Nothing wrong with feasting – everything wrong with being given to excesses.
