Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress? (Proverbs 5:20)
The thing about the word ‘forbidden’ is that it can almost appear to be a challenge to the inner person. Like the child that’s told the chocolate is forbidden, when we’re told we cannot have something we move from why not, to trying the boundaries to crossing the boundaries. Then you have the current state of society where those boundaries are blurred. What is forbidden now is openly flaunted and encouraged. This warning is about sexual faithfulness and now so much more. Will wisdom allow us to avoid the forbidden?
