Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. (Proverbs 4:23, 24)
The two sentiments are linked. We will have a tendency to speak what comes from the heart. However much we tend to cover it with guile or deception, the truth will out. It’s in our best interests to make sure the state of our heart is pure or we cannot be surprised if what comes out of it will tend to stink. Justice and righteousness begin as issues of the heart and proceed as conversations from our mouth that motivate the actions of our lives.
