It is with some trepidation but overall excitement that I announce the beginning of my look through the book of Matthew. As I mentioned on earlier on this year it has been a heart felt desire to go through gospels and share what pops out and now I have the chance to do that.
I start with Matthew during February because there are some good connections. First it’s the first gospel we read in the New Testament and so it makes sense to go through it as the first one of the year. As well as that there are 28 days in February and 28 chapters in the book of Matthew. I’m not hot on the chapter divisions that form a big part of our Bibles, but that number was just convenient to miss out on exploring a chapter a day.
To accompany this, I was blessed to come across someone who has posted a movie of the book, faithfully going through it verse by verse, which happens to be split up into … yes you’ve guessed it – 28 parts! So I’ll leave it to you to work out how many parts over the month I’ll be able to post!
The plan is not to do a full dissection of each chapter, or some profound and deep exposition and commentary with analysis of Greek and contextual implications of the narrative. There are experts who I’m sure would do a much better job of that than me.
The plan is to go through the chapter and share whatever thoughts come to mind in considering each chapter. In a manner very similar to the series on Jesus is over February space will be given in the morning slot of each day to share that brief thought. I hope to take the opportunity to share at a bit more length if anything is striking about it.
I have even gone as far as to purchase a pocket Bible as well – with a notepad and pen as well (dear Lord, thank You for pay day). So as I read I’ll be able to make notes wherever I am and whatever I’m reading. I’m sure there’ll be too much material to fit on the blog and lots of stuff to consider for much later entries or conversation pieces or even better life transforming encounters with Jesus in His Word.
Whatever it is, be sure it will be indicated at some point in the journey through Matthew. Feel free as ever to leave comments and pray that God will illuminate our hearts as we go through.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
