I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. (John 6:51)
There is a saying that you are what you eat. If this be so, then Jesus’ proclamation becomes even more important – it is literally a matter of life and death. Indeed it is His death and broken body that allows us to have access to eternal life. It also highlights how pursuing the temporal and that which lasts but a while, is futile and ends in death. Jesus’ invitation, through faith in Him, is not to be consumed in that which is futile, but to feast on Him who is eternal.
For His Name’s Sake
