For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. (Ephesians 2:14-16)
Peace is wholeness. That does not seem to make sense in a world of brokenness that gnaws away at the human condition. Things fall apart. Situations that we hoped would last fail. There is almost a resignation as that is the way of life.
This is why Jesus as the Prince of Peace offers something no one and nothing else could. From whole-life healing to the restoring the ultimate fractured relationship between God and man as well as man with each other – Jesus steps in and causes shalom.
He takes the broken and makes us whole.
