The Power of Affirmation

I do have some significance news to post and I was meant to post it today, but due to some communication breakdown issues I have to postpone that significant news until tomorrow at the earliest.  It is significant.  It is worth waiting for.

In the meantime despite the hang-up, I came across a document today that meant the world to me.  Earlier on this year as I was settling into this new place I got a letter from my mentor.  The words on that letter was timely and immensely encouraging.  It is one thing to be acknowledged, it’s a completely different level of a thing to be affirmed.

I know some people need an ego boost and are forever looking for someone to tell them how great they are just to make up for their insecurities.  That’s not what I mean by affirmation.  What I mean by affirmation is someone taking the time to see the person and the work and consider the context before that marvellous act of declaring that which is good in their sight.  It’s very much like the statement that the Father makes to the Son after He comes out of his baptism.  “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”  Nothing else matters than that.

So when one of your fathers in the faith who has witnessed your development does something similar, you’re not reading the words of man, you’re feeling affirmed from above.  With that affirmation putting all of life in perspective you’re prepared to go all out again to reflect the affirmation – to live all out for the Father.

Affirmation is special.  That recognition of vocation or gifting, of obedience and of relational position is one of those moments to treasure.  I am grateful to be in relationship with people who pay that attention and give those words in the right time in the right season for someone’s progress.  I hope to likewise be in that position for loved ones to be a vessel for them to hear God speaking to them those words of affirmation.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
