Hymns. Powerful tools in the musical kitbox to help us embed some profound essential spiritual truths for the journey. I distinctly remember singing this hymn (of course nothing as good as this version, but we still sang it) and taken by how much like a little song you’d sing to a child when they’re going to sleep. Like a lullabye if you will.
I still get that impression that it’s a bit like what a child would sing to their parent and in this case what we as followers of Jesus ask of Him as our Shepherd in a very child-like way. Yeah again with the KJV language, but hopefully you can pick your way through it and get the gist of the song has the endless appeal of looking to be lead and knowing only One can do it especially based on His pristine track record.
