The concluding part of our brief series on my growing understanding of family is coming up soon. Today though, I was reflecting on the nature of friends as I was looking to update me Facebook page.
My relationship with Facebook has been interesting since I signed up to it about a year or so ago. At first I’d accept every John, Rick and Gary (like it? I though it would make a change from the usual suspects, i.e Tom, Dick and Harry). I thought it was a mark of my popularity to have as many ‘friends’ as possible. Then as time went on, it got a bit unwieldy. After all, I don’t really have that many ‘friends’. Some of the people I’d linked with I hardly knew as strangers let alone friends!
Now I’m at an interesting juncture and think again, what makes a friend? What’s the point of them? Why keep them? What use am I to them and of course, what use are they to me? Some are excellent for nostalgic value and at present it’s good to travel from my Wellingborough days to the current Little Hulton days through the ‘friends’ I’ve got up online. Yet I’m convinced there’s more to friendship than just commenting on someone’s Facebook Status Update.
So what next for me and the friendship thing? We shall indeed see …
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
