Listening to this song now after all those years since it first lodged itself in my brain it sounds dated. It sounds like it belongs to another time and another place. Something about styles of music having changed in the interim period would under other circumstances see me give this song a wide berth.
Yet even in the singing (especially the background singers) and the nature of the song itself, there is something endearing in it. There is something in it that says that it is worth more than a fond nostalgic glance, it actually sends home a rallying cry to others who would be buffeted by life’s rocky ways. The determined mind-set is not about a bravado that sees your ship go through no matter what, but it holds onto to that essential dependency on the Captain of the ship. There is much that would look to block any success in that department, but the determination and the faith makes the distractions and efforts to block us overcome by His power.
It’s not that dated after all! Just as well, it’s a good song.
For His Name’s Sake
