I really enjoyed putting on the last blog on Elvis singing gospel especially for the insightful view on Elvis and his gospel roots as it related to his understanding of different cultures.
It remains an ongoing tragedy that the very songs he sung which could have ministered to him in his time of need were not taken on board wholesale. He evidently knew how to sing them from his soul though.

I will admit that even though I am an atheist
I find Elvis’ religious music to be among some of his best vocal work and most passionate performances.
Apparently the last record Elvis played was a JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet gospel album on his bedroom turntable.
I am sure he listened and sang gospel frequently as a self-comforting technique.
